The Unwanted Book

A wrinkled up beat up torn book laid upon a table at a bookstore

No one would even notice if it slipped and disappeared onto the hard dark floor

Burnt edges of this mysterious book was shown

It’s story and words were unknown

For no one had read this book for it was alone

Almost as dead as a dried up bone

It’s title imprinted was quite small

It just waited quietly for its call

But then one day a curious boy gazed at this beat up book with wonder

The store keeper looked at the kid as if he made a blunder

The little boy picked up the book and asked, “Why is this book called the unwanted book? ”

The store keeper just smiled and said, “Because the book feels unwanted, not even one person has cared to take a look. ”

“But sir why does no one care to read this book? ”

“Because they judge this book by its cover and it’s torn up pages.

It seems as though no one had read this for ages. ”

“But sir the book is perfect and shiny and light. ”

“That is because you believe there is more then what lies from its site. ”

The kid gave a bright smile and asked one last question, “How much does this book cost?”

“It doesn’t have a specific cost. It’s value is on what you believe it cost. ”

At first the kid looked at him as though he was lost but then he rummaged through his pockets and found his only gold coin.

“This is all I have is this gold coin. ”

The store keeper just smiled again and said, “This book has quite a history and there is much more this book has to offer. I promise you that.”

The young boy grabbed his book and ran out of the store so fast that he almost dropped his hat.

He opened the first page and what fell out was something of amaze.

Gold coins fell from the book to the ground and all the boy could do is jump for praise.

I guess the lesson for today is to not judge a book by its cover

Because you’ll never know what you might discover
